Mould, Asbestos and
Hazardous Materials Assessments

Mould, asbestos and other hazardous material contamination have been identified as a major contributor to building-related illness & poor air quality.

In Ontario as well as in other jurisdictions mould, asbestos and hazardous materials have become an issue of public concern. Mould, asbestos and other hazardous material contamination have been identified as a major contributor to building-related illness and poor air quality. AQE's comprehensive experience includes mould, asbestos and hazardous materials assessments as well as remediation for a broad range of clients. The list includes over 150 assessments in major Canadian buildings, as well as numerous school boards, financial institutions and corporations.

Mould can start to grow within 48 hours without proper mitigation after water infiltration, leaks or flooding. If an amplification site is suspected within a building, it should be investigated and, if required, sampled. If it is determined that an area is an amplification site, it should be properly remediated.

The exposure risks of asbestos, lead and other hazardous materials have been known for decades. Occupational exposure is now strictly regulated by provincial governments. Frequent or prolonged exposure to airborne asbestos or lead does cause health risks. People can put themselves at risk — often without realizing it — if they do not take proper precautions when repairs or renovations disturb asbestos or lead containing materials. If it is not known whether a workplace contains asbestos, lead or other hazardous materials, a Hazardous Materials Audit should be carried out. If there are hazardous materials, procedures to manage or remove the hazards are required. AQE's experience with project management, air monitoring and hazardous materials assessments includes all of the required steps needed for quick and efficient abatement. AQE's strong alliances with experienced laboratories and trained removal contractors ensure that any inspection, assessment and possible remediation procedure is timely and cost effective.
